Christmas
Bird Count
Every year since 1900 the National
Audubon Society has conducted an annual Christmas Bird Count. For some history on the background go to the History link. The first Calaveras Christmas Bird Count was
December 29, 1990. That count was the 91st count for the National Audubon
Society and Calaveras was one of 1600 counts and the 29 participants joined
45,000 other participants throughout North American and Central and South
American.
Below is the summary of the
species seen on these counts in the Blue Lake Springs Area. For the complete

as the circle ID for Calaveras. The 15 mile diameter
count circle for the Calaveras Count is centered near Avery. Future bird counts
will be from December 14- January 5. Calaveras counts are usually Saturday or
two after Christmas.
