REGION 1 CALAVERAS BIG TREES
STATE PARK Enter Park at Highway 4 and cover all areas accessible in the park
to the count circle boundary. This should include the North Grove Trail, the
Overlook trail, the meadow around the North Campground, the
meadow by the parking lot. Amount of area and time depends on the amount of
snow on the ground but park statistics should be kept separate from rest of
count statistics for future park records.
Please keep an eye and ear
open for spotted owls and goshawks as they both breed in the park and are
assumed to be residents but we need to find them in the winter. Check with the
appropriate ranger/employee to find the best places to bird.
You can check the current check list for Calaveras Big
Trees State Park at this link.
