REGION 8 HATHAWAY
PINES/HANFORD HILLS Start at Highway 4 at the Sewage Treatment plant
(approximately across from Mt.Mike's just above the former Boy Scout Camp)- to
include the plant and all areas and roads on the "north" side of
Highway 4 down to the last house (#2653) on Highway 4 before the unbuilt part
of the hill, just across and above the east end of Utica Power House dam and
just below the 3000 feet marker. This will include the Sewage Treatment Plant
which has 40 acres of land. Check with the manager ahead of time about access,
someone needs to be there for you to walk around, usually between noon and 2:30
on Saturdays. This area also includes Ebbetts Pass Highlands in Avery, Hathaway
Pines, Timber Trails, Hanford Hill Acres, all on the north side of Highway 4.
The 1.1 miles of Avery Sheep Ranch road starting at Avery has some good spots
to stop - all open grassy meadows. Beyond Timber Trails is in region 13. Your
area stops at Timber Trails but includes Timber Trails in case you decide to
cover that area. Avery would be worth a walk through if you have enough people
to have different parties cover your region. There is a lot of private property
in this region so ask for permission to count there ahead of time. 4-wheel
drive is necessary for many side roads so this can also be divided up into two
or three parties parties for foot/hiking. Note carefully the boundaries of
region 8 as they run into region 13 and 11.
